This vibrant red silk-crepe dress is a homage to the late American designer Claire McCardell, who is best known for her sporty go-getting styles which revolutionised American fashion in the 1940's and 50’s. Her iconic Monastic Dress - one of which is preserved at the Met Museum in New York - was an instant hit. It had a pleated unstructured silhouette and was tightened at the waist with a spaghetti string, allowing for more freedom of movement. Just like her design, our McCardell dress is suited to every body shape. It has been modernised with an integrated waistband which tightens with a contrasting cream ribbon allowing you to play with its shape. The sleeves are bold and sculptural, the skirt has both volume and fluidity. The dress is finessed by a cream ribbon tie behind the neck and at the waist.
